FAQ's

What is a Ceilidh?

One definition of Ceilidh is 'an informal entertainment, especially in Scotland or Ireland where there is folk music singing and dancing'.

Our interpretation is an evening of dances lead by a caller who explains the dances, accompanied by English, Scotish and Irish traditional music.

How long would a ceilidh normally last? To some extent this is up to the organisers. We generally advise that two one and a half hour sessions is about right. With meals and refreshments a typical evening would last about 4 hours in all
Do we provide any background music? Yes, there are a couple of options. We can provide some live background music in the form of a guitar and violin duo. This can be nice for more formal occasions when guests are arriving at the venue. Alternatively we can play music through the PA in an MP3 format either provided by us or yourselves.
Do we have a PA? Yes, we have our own PA and other audio equipment
Do we have insurance cover? Yes, we have third part liability cover and are happy to provide a copy of the certificate at your request
Can we provide a disco? No, we can provide some background music for meal times etc but we don't provide a disco
How much time does the band need to set up? Generally we need a bout an hour to set up the PA and perform a sound check before guests arrive
